How To Turn Off Suggested Reels On Instagram

Instagram documents no permanent off switch for suggested Reels. Its options: the Following view, a 30-day snooze for Feed suggestions and Not interested.

Short answer: none of the Instagram and Meta pages cited below describes a setting that turns suggested Reels off for good. What they do describe: a Following view, in Feed and in Reels, that shows content from accounts you follow, newest first; Snooze, which pauses all suggested posts in your Feed for 30 days; and Not interested, which tells Instagram to show you less of something. Meta says its options may not be available to everyone, and some are only in the app. The menus have also changed over time, so the labels you see may differ.

Three kinds of suggestions

  • Suggested posts in your Feed. Your home Feed can include suggested content as well as posts from the accounts you follow.
  • Recommended reels. The Reels feed is one of Instagram's recommendation experiences, as are Explore, Accounts You May Like and Feed.
  • Account suggestions. Profiles Instagram suggests you follow, such as Accounts You May Like.

Whether your own profile shows similar-profile suggestions, and appears in other people's, is a separate setting: see how to turn off account suggestions on your profile.

See only accounts you follow: the Following view

Meta's descriptions of Instagram's Feed and Reels systems both give a Following view:

  • Feed: choose Following on the home screen to see content from accounts you follow in reverse chronological order. Meta says that with this option you won't see recommended content from Instagram.
  • Reels: choose Following on the Reels feed to see reels from accounts you follow in reverse chronological order.

Meta describes Following as a view you choose. Its pages don't describe a setting that makes it the default for your Feed or Reels.

Pause suggested posts in your Feed for 30 days

Instagram's Help Center gives these steps for the Instagram app, and says the feature isn't available on computers:

  1. Tap Options above a suggested post in your Feed.
  2. Tap Not interested.
  3. Tap Snooze to pause all suggested posts in your Feed for 30 days.

The same menu also offers Don't suggest posts from the account and Don't suggest posts with certain words. The article describes the snooze for suggested posts in your Feed: it doesn't say the snooze changes the Reels feed or Explore, and it doesn't describe a way to make it permanent.

In Meta's August 2022 description, you snoozed suggested posts from the X in the top right corner of a suggested post. The current Help Center steps start from Options instead, so the labels on your screen may differ again.

Tell Instagram you're not interested

On a reel or a suggested post, the three-dot menu has Not interested. For reels, Meta says that if you don't want to see more of a certain type of reel, you can select Not interested and the system will attempt to filter out similar content in the future. For a suggested post in Feed, it says the system will no longer show you posts from that author and will attempt to demote similar content. Either way it changes what you are shown; it doesn't switch suggestions off.

What doesn't turn suggestions off

  • Resetting your suggested content. Meta says that after a reset your recommendations will start to personalize again over time.
  • Choosing topics. Meta's May 2026 announcement describes Your Algorithm, which Instagram launched in December 2025 to let you see more or less about certain topics, as available on Reels and Explore in English-speaking countries. It adjusts what is recommended; it doesn't remove recommendations.
